Alternative metallers Shaman's Harvest were formed in Jefferson City, Missouri by bassist Matt Fisher, singer Nathan "Drake" Hunt, and guitarist Josh Hamler. The band amassed three albums during the years of 1999 to 2006 before making an impact on the alternative charts in 2009 with "Dragonfly" from their fourth album, Shine. The success of "Dragonfly" put some pep in their step and they cracked the US Heatseekers Top ten chart with their fifth album Smokin' Hearts & Broken Guns, (2014) as well as breaking through to the US indie and US rock charts. Originally penned by the late Michael Jackson for his Quincy Jones-produced seventh studio album Bad, and first released in 1987, "Dirty Diana"—contained on Smokin' Hearts & Broken Guns—paints a particularly unflattering portrait of a music-loving groupie. Shaman's Harvest's hard-rock candy cover retains the original song's shred-heavy spirit while adding a hefty dose of the blues.
