"Ghost of a Chance" opens with a punchy guitar line before descending into haunting vocals from Geddy Lee that brood over the notion of compromise in a relationship ("But I believe there's a ghost of a chance we can find someone to love / And make it last"). Released by Anthem Records in 1991 as part of the Canadian band's fourteenth album Roll the Bones, "Ghost of a Chance" combines the decadence of prog-rock with an approachable melody, demonstrating their ability to write catchy songs that broadened the horizon of rock 'n' roll. Meanwhile, Roll the Bones—which won a Juno Award for Best Album Design at the 1992 Juno Awards and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America—marked Rush's comeback to mainstream popularity, peaking at number three in the US, number 10 in the UK, and number 11 in Canada. The LP was the follow-up to their first post-Mercury release, Presto(1989).
