"A Horse with No Name" is a single by US folk-rock band America, included in their 1971 self-titled studio debut. Originally titled "Desert Song," it was the first and most successful single of their career. The track was written by lead singer Dewey Bunnell during the band's stay at Arthur Brown's home studio in Dorset, England. Inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí and M.C. Escher, as well as his childhood travels through the Arizona and New Mexico desert, "A Horse with No Name" was released as the album's first UK single in 1971, peaking at Number 5 on the Official Singles Chart. A couple of months later, the single reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 after getting its American release in early 1972, propelling its parent album to Platinum status. Over the course of the following decades, "A Horse with No Name" was featured in several prime-time TV shows such as Friends, Breaking Bad, and BoJack Horseman.
